FOR those with one bar of mobile service across their business footprint, Australia’s first cellular network two-way radio style transceiver has been launched.

Sydney based communications company, ToooAir, said “push-to-talk-over-cellular” (PTTOC) transceiver allowed both personal and group communications.
Unlike traditional radio networks, the system uses voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP) over the Telstra cellular mobile network, which allows features such as GPS tracking, voicemail and other digital services.
ToooAir, general manager, Peter Langbart said the transceiver would provide better coverage than a traditional mobile phone.
“The ToooAir product uses the data network for voice communication which supplies far more reliable communication in weaker signal strength,” he said.
“Operating on Telstra’s NextG data network, offering the largest coverage of any Australian cellular network, the ToooAir product provides enhanced voice communication through a pioneering piece of technology.”
Mr Langbart said the receiver worked with one bar of coverage and he was excited to bring the technology to the Australian market.
“Traditional land and mobile radio or personal mobile radio systems simply aren’t cutting it anymore,” he said.
“Australia’s workforce is becoming more geographically diverse and this causes issues for dated communications systems which rely on the close proximity of users.
“PTTOC technology solves this issue and has added capabilities such as dispatch software and GPS tracking that aren’t provided through other products.”
ToooAir said the range comprised of a compact unit, a mobile mounted unit and a handheld device.
