Farmers in central Queensland are urged to provide feedback on bureaucratic ‘red tape’ that might be impacting on agricultural production in the region.
Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the Productivity Commission will hold a hearing in Rockhampton this Friday as part of its inquiry into regulations within agriculture.
“We all have complaints about some type of red tape that inhibits our lives or business operations and farming is no different,” Ms Landry said.
“If farmers have case studies and can cite regulations that they think could be scrapped or improved they can make a submission to the inquiry.”
Ms Landry said Federal Government has specifically asked the Productivity Commission to undertake an inquiry into the regulatory burden on farm businesses.
The Commission is keen to hear about regulation issues on land tenure, environmental protection, technology and chemicals, water, transport, animal welfare, biosecurity, food safety and labelling, competition regulation and investment.
The Rockhampton hearing is on Friday January 29, at the Rockhampton Art Gallery from 1pm – 3pm.
To register interest email Bonnie Nguyen bonnie.nguyen@pc.gov.au or phone (03) 9653 2278.
You can also lodge a written submission via the commission’s website.
Initial submissions to the inquiry are due by Friday 12 February 2016, with a further opportunity to comment after the Commission releases its draft report in May.
